2020 AGE OF DISCOVERY TOUR– PORTUGAL

In October 2020 it is time for you to discover Portugal and all the beauty, culture and history it has to offer just like Prince Henry, the Navigator did in 1412 when he ordered the first expeditions to the African Coast and Canary Islands.  This caped off the Portuguese Age of Discoveries.

This tour will take you around this beautiful country. Starting in Portugal’s capital, Lisbon you will get your first look at the Tagus River whilst walking along the famous cobblestone streets. Take in some rich culture and history with a Fado show and taste authentic Portuguese tarts.

From Lisbon you will then explore the North and visit the birthplace of port wine, Porto. From there we make our way to Algarve in the south, which is known for its Mediterranean beaches, resorts and whitewashed fishing villages on low cliffs overlooking sandy coves.

This is a trip for a small number (between 10 – 15 travellers) designed to take in the rich culture of the country whilst experiencing their laid-back lifestyle.

Porto region

Sunday October 04, 2020 :
Travel to Porto with stop over in Coimbra. Coimbra sight seeing tour and lunch. Onwards to Porto via Aveiro (the “portuguese Venice”). with a sight seeing tour of Aveiro. – Hotel Porto
Monday October 05, 2020 :
Porto sight seeing tour. With a Douro river cruse and Port wine tasting.  –Hotel Porto
Tuesday October 06, 2020:
Guimarens and Braga sight seeing tour. – Hotel Porto

Algarve region

About your host:

The tour will be hosted by Glen Cavaco – first generation Australian, Portuguese speaking and lover of fine food and wine.

Glen was born and brought up in Sydney amongst the Portuguese community around Petersham. Here he learnt to love all things Portuguese from the food to the people. He has travelled to Portugal more times than he can remember and has explored most of the country from his parent homeland in the Algarve to the far north of Portugal.

He is looking forward to showing you around the country he calls his second home. Show you some of his favourite places to visit and share some of his favourite foods.
