The fifth UK Antiques Roadshow – 18 days – 16 nights. Now completed providing 11 lucky travellers with a lifetime of memories. As well as some beautiful and treasured antiques. Below is the day-by-day itinerary. We have also posted some photos of some of the highlights on the Gallery page. There was much laughter, stunning scenery, delightful antiques fairs and quirky antique and collectable shops.

Thursday 28 May 2015: Sydney (Terminal 3) to London (Terminal 2)

Singapore Airlines (some passengers arranged their own flights and met us in London). Departed Sydney airport early evening, changeover in Singapore.

Friday 29 May: Heathrow | Windsor Castle | Goring-on-Thames | Stonehenge | Salisbury | Newbury

Arrived Heathrow – Terminal 2 – early morning, met driver “Skippy”, drive to Windsor Castle then on to Goring-on-Thames for morning tea by the river; drive past Stonehenge; visited Salisbury – cathedral and antiques stores. Arrived Newbury, Elcot Park Hotel late afternoon

Saturday 30th May: Newbury | Hungerford |Marlborough | Bath | Avebury |Newbury

The Lincolnshire International Antiques and Home Show – 3000 inside and outside stalls. One of Europe’s biggest Antiques and Home shows; Lincoln is a delightful roman town with great shopping and eating places.

morning in Lincoln; drive through Cotswolds; visit to Battle of Britain air museum; lunch and afternoon in Horn castle visiting antiques stores and one of the world’s most stocked stores overflowing with ‘stuff”; group dinner at Tapas restaurant in Lincoln

Wednesday 3rd June: Lincoln | Donnington Hall | Newark | Nottingham

Morning in Lincoln; Doddington Hall – Elizabethan mansion for lunch; Newark antiques centres; Hilton Nottingham for 3 nights

Thursday 4th June: Nottingham | Newark Antiques Show | Sherwood Forest | Nottingham

Newark Antiques Fair – over 4000 exhibitors; Sherwood Forest and the Major Oak tree; Nottingham late afternoon – Nottingham not great at first impression but got better the more we explored

Friday 5th June: Nottingham | Cave tour | Matlock antiques | Nottingham

Nottingham cave tour; trip through Nottinghamshire into the Peak District of Derbyshire to visit antiques shops in Matlock; returned to centre of Nottingham early evening and a trip (for some) to the Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem – oldest inn in England (1189 AD)

Saturday 6th June: Nottingham | York | West Aukland (near Durham

|arrived York at 12.30 and stayed until 4pm, 2 antique centres, street performers and lunch by the River Ouse; arrived Manor House Hotel, West Aukland, County Durham at 6pm

Sunday 7th June: West Auckland | Bowes Museum antiques fair | Walworth Castle } West Auckland |

boot fair was cancelled but found a Antiques fair at the impressive Bowes museum| birds of prey display at Walworth Castle and back to hotel, weather has been much better last few days

Monday 8th June: West Auckland | Barnard Castle | Whitby | West Auckland

left hotel at 8.30 for Gainsborough antiques centre – biggest in Europe; arrived Cambridge Quy Mill Hotel and Spa (3 miles outside Cambridge) late afternoon

Wednesday 10th June: Cambridge|Risby | Ely|Cambridge

Cambridge
Day in Cambridge for some of the group; others went antiquing to Risby, followed by a visit to Ely Cathedral, Waterside Antiques centre; pub lunch at the Lazy Otter; Cambridge city centre for late afternoon visit and punt, pub dinner

Thursday 11th June: Cambridge | Sandringham | Norwich | Kings Lynn | Cambridge

picturesque drive to Sandringham Estate – the Norfolk retreat of Her Majesty the Queen (some of the group went to Norwich to visit antique centres) | quick visit to an antiques shop in King’s Lynn; back to Cambridge city centre in time for Evensong at King’s College Chapel

Friday 12th June: Cambridge | St Albans |Hampton Court (Kingston)| London

drive to St Albans for short break and antique stores; Hampton Court for 4 hours (some of the group visited local antique centres; drop off at Kensington hotel for some of the travellers the rest went on Skippy’s (driver) personal drive around London taking in many of the tourist sites, back to hotel early evening (Holiday Inn Kensington -2 nights)

Saturday 13th June: London

Saturday and Sunday in London are unstructured as travellers do their own thing – the hotel is ideally placed for the London tube system and buses. Everyone went to Portobello Road – world’s biggest antiques market which is just 3 miles away…. then for the rest of the day the many attractions of London were waiting to be discovered.

Sunday 14th June - Tues 16th June: London to Australia

At leisure in London in the morning; a few of the group went to Europe by train, some stayed on in London and the rest flew out of Heathrow in the evening to arrive back in Australia Tuesday morning (not sure what happens to Monday – lost at 35,000ft). That’s it for another year. Fancy coming in 2016?

Cost

This was the cost of the 2015 Tour (nb: could change for 2016 depending on rate of exchange, hotel and coach costs and number of travellers). Land only: double or twin share $6900 each; Single traveller $8400   

PLUS air fares. Economy (including taxes) allow $2500 from Sydney. Business class approx $9000.

We can arrange other flights and insurance. A deposit invoice for $1500 will be sent once you confirm you want to go on the UK 2016 Tour (refundable if the tour doesn’t go ahead.

Payment

A further payment (50% of total cost to be paid 3 months before departure and the balance by 6 weeks before departure (both of these payments non-refundable – so we do advise taking out travel insurance).

Costs includes taxes, transfers, hotel with full breakfast, diver and coach for the Tour (excluding the last two days in London). Cost does not include entrance fees to antique fairs and tourist attractions and any other meals and drinks, as everything is optional, nothing compulsory.
