An exceptional 4-star country retreat, Mercure Newbury Elcot Park Hotel is a splendid Georgian Manor house. This Newbury hotel overlooks the Kennet Valley and has many period features. Complimentary high speed WiFi is available in the 73 tasteful guest rooms and throughout the hotel. The hotel was built in 1768 for Charles Dundas, a prominent landowner from the neighbouring village of Kintbury. Amongst the earliest inhabitants was Anthony Bushby Bacon – the wealthiest man in Britainan and Lady Shelly, mother of the great poet Percy Bysshe Shelley, moved here with her remaining daughter in 1844.

Situated alongside Coniston Water, with lawns running down to the lakeshore, the Waterhead has been a hotel for over 100 years.
